Toro Y Moi, Low Shoulder

Toro Y Moi – “Low Shoulder”

Watch as Ben Sherman’s wife, former 60s scene-queen Daphne Sherman, gets creepy in retro horror movie style in Toro Y Moi’s video for Low Shoulder. Directors Elisha Smith-Leverock (whose work has appeared on SHOWstudio and Vogue.it) and Chris Murdoch (who filmed Juke magazine’s trailer with Dr. Martens) infused this video with tons of devil-worshipping style for a measly £300.

Interview: Polly Morgan

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Polly Morgan

Polly Morgan, a London-based taxidermy artist who turns deceased fowls into sublime sculptural pieces, has some rather high-profile supporters (Bansky, Kate Moss, and Courtney Love, just to name a few). Her solo show, Psychopomps – named after mythical creatures that carry souls into the afterlife – is currently on display at Haunch of Venison in London. These once majestic flights of fancy are suspended in mid-air, capturing life even after death. Come October, Morgan is set to participate at an All Visual Arts exhibition in London’s famous 33 Portland Place, where you might see a murder of crows sculpted into a bouquet of hyacinths.

Interview: Glass Candy

Glass Candy

Glass Candy

When you contemplate an inmate dominating the prison system through violence, charisma, and a luxurious handlebar moustache, what song pops into your head? If you’ve seen the UK prisoner biopic Bronson – now making new ripples with its international DVD release – you’ll immediately call to mind the urgent disco throbs of Glass Candy’s “Digital Versicolor.” The track is more haunting than catchy, featuring lyricist Ida No chanting ominously about primary colors over producer/keyboardist Jonny Jewel’s pulsing 80s-cop-show-theme undulations.

Interview: Jean-Pierre Braganza

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Jean-Pierre Braganza: CYLONATRON A/W 2010

Jean-Pierre Braganza is a universal fashion designer, literally. A Canadian expatriate of multicultural descent living in the UK, his designs truly possess a worldly sensibility. And his mind – since he was young – has been tapped into the intergalactic, resulting in a collection of digital prints and complex cuts that are brilliantly modern. Think of it as a world where fashion is juxtaposed with science. But make no mistake, Braganza has a sense of humour. Here, the designer talks about popularity, bitchiness, and Karl Lagerfeld’s words of wisdom.

Interview: Lookbook.nu

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Yuri Lee, founder Lookbook.nu

If you’re in that neat Venn diagram crossover between “fashion addict” and “web addict,” you probably already know Lookbook.nu. Poised perfectly between social networking site and fashion blog, the massively popular site allows users to post “Lookbooks” of self-styled looks.

Lookbook’s founder Yuri Lee took some time out of her busy, busy schedule to tell us more about her and her boyfriend’s brilliant invention.
