A Blanket Is All You’ll Need At Bryant Park
August 12th, 2009

While the fashion crowd and overflow of young models awaits for Bryant Park to be covered by white tents for S/S 2010 Fashion Week this fall, the park is currently hosting an assemblage of middle-aged characters.

The 2009 HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival is showcasing iconic films every Monday this summer. The 10-day film festival opened with The Sting, a Depression-era gangster film staring Paul Newman and Robert Redford; followed by Breaking Away, a film about a teen obsessed with cycling (think a young Lance Armstrong set in 1979), and Gold Diggers of 1933, a glitzy Broadway adaptation featuring Ginger Rogers. The impressive line-up also includes Academy Award winning titles like, Dog Day Afternoon, How Green Was My Valley, and Kramer vs. Kramer. The festival ends August 17, closing with Steven Spielberg’s extraterrestrial film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. With films starting around dusk, The Lawn opens early at 5 p.m. for picnicking. Just remember to throw away your trash; you wouldn’t want to attract The Birds as a special encore at the end of the night. http://www.bryantpark.org/
